# Aider v0.84.0: Claude Sonnet 4 / Opus 4 support, sonnet and opus aliases repointed

> Aider added Claude Sonnet 4 and Opus 4 support across providers and repointed the `sonnet` and `opus` aliases at those newer versions, so existing configs using the short aliases will now hit different models. Also adds a Vertex Gemini 2.5 Flash preview model, automatic GitHub Copilot token refresh, and a fix for `.gitignore`d files added on the command line.

## What changed


- Claude Sonnet 4 and Opus 4 series supported across providers (`claude-sonnet-4-20250514`, `claude-opus-4-20250514`).
- Default `sonnet` and `opus` aliases now resolve to those newer versions.
- Added `vertex_ai/gemini-2.5-flash-preview-05-20`.
- Onboarding OpenRouter defaults changed: `deepseek/deepseek-r1:free` (free tier), `anthropic/claude-sonnet-4` (paid).
- GitHub Copilot tokens auto-refresh when used as OpenAI API keys.
- Fix: files passed on the command line were wrongly ignored if matched by `.gitignore`.
- Fix: OpenRouter token cost calculation accuracy.
- Local cache for OpenRouter model metadata.
- Shell tab completion for file path arguments and `--edit-format` / `--editor-edit-format`.
- `/settings` now prints metadata for the main, editor, and weak models.
- Language detection normalises hyphenated locales (`en-US` to `en`); `C` / `POSIX` locales no longer passed to the LLM as a reply language.
- Spinner shows the model name during commit message generation.
- configargparse pinned to 1.7.1 (1.7 was pulled).
