Seven days of the archive, compressed. Significance decides what gets a paragraph, a line, or gets folded into a single count — nothing here is editorialised beyond that sort.

Week of 2026-08-17 — 7 scenes

A moment earns a scene by being significant (significance 4 or 5, or marked breaking), by forming a typed relationship between two entities, or by being a finalized rollup the archive wrote for this week. Every sentence is built from fields in the event records and /api/graph.json. Nothing here claims one moment caused another.

Oh My Pi 17.4.0: model-scoped Tokenizer replaces global token counting (breaking)

Oh My Pi 17.4.0 removes the global token-counting functions in @oh-my-pi/pi-agent-core and replaces them with immutable per-model Tokenizer instances, which several context-management functions now require explicitly. On the agent side it adds /cleanse, omp ps, speculative compaction, and an extendedContext setting controlling whether premium long-context windows are used.

Default model env var, cross-session idle notification, auto mode improvements, screen reader support

Adds ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_MODEL to set the starting model for new sessions while /model overrides persist across restarts. Adds notify_when_idle to SendMessage for one-shot cross-session coordination. Sandbox wildcard read-deny rules now correctly take precedence inside allowed regions. Auto mode gains severity-scored classification on all supported backends and a hardened git status check. VS Code gets screen reader support for the transcript. The /model picker trims to fit the terminal height. SIGTERM in print/SDK mode exits cleanly. Dozens of bug fixes across fullscreen rendering, session recovery, SendMessage, and more.

Native notifications, voice input, streaming command output, image generation, UI overhaul

Major desktop release adding native macOS task notifications, voice dictation into the composer, streaming terminal output with preserved colors and scrollability, inline image generation for compatible models, and collapsed agent run summaries. Redesigned question cards with explicit selection and keyboard shortcuts, refreshed markdown rendering, and message hover actions. Sessions no longer leak the Yolo-mode system prompt when auto-approve is on. Fixed command parsing for full-line commands with spaces, Gemini custom base URLs, and several other bugs.

Cursor: cloud agents with subscriptions, custom modes, isolated subagent VMs, and /goal

Cursor cloud agents can now subscribe to event sources (PRs, Slack threads, scheduled triggers) and drive work to completion autonomously. Custom modes lock a skill as the agent's persistent context. Subagents run on isolated virtual machines with clean project copies. The /goal command gives agents long-lived objectives. Steering follow-ups no longer interrupt the current tool call.

Cursor Origin: code hosting, GitHub sync, and app integrations in beta

Cursor launched Origin, a code hosting service integrated directly into the editor. Paid-plan users get hosted repos, bidirectional GitHub sync, pull requests, agent access in every repo, and app integrations (Vercel, Depot, Buildkite). Agent-native features are promised but not yet shipped. Entry into a market GitHub has dominated means a new default for Cursor users — every reason to read the docs if your team uses Cursor.

Oh My Pi 17.3.5: xAI onboarded to Responses API, GLM-5.3 support, Grok-4.5 default, broad provider reliability overhaul

A substantial cross-package release. The paid xAI provider (XAI_API_KEY) moves from Chat Completions to the OpenAI Responses API, aligning with SuperGrok. Default model moves to grok-4.5 on both xai and xai-oauth. GLM-5.3 is now available with full reasoning-effort ladder and 1M context on z.AI. Dozens of fixes improve retry handling across Anthropic, DeepSeek, Kimi Code, Alibaba, and xAI providers, plus fixes to usage reporting, session recovery, replay of thinking content, and more.
